Free Will

For most of my life, I feel I have not truly understood what this means. My major conflict in understanding has been the fact that how can one persons free will override the free will of another? e.g if one human being wants to physically hurt another then why is the free will of the perpetrator validated over the free will of the victim? This doesn’t make any sense to me. I can’t see how things could be any other way. If there was no free will, what would be the alternative – not free will? i.e. predetermined will? This would imply that we are slaves of a greater will, just enacting out our predetermined path.

It is often implied that as human beings, we have the right to exercise our free will and that is supposed to be amazing. The concept of “Free will” seems to imply something great and amazing, as a “gift from god”, something we have a choice over. However, in reality there are no guarantees as to what we can and cannot will into taking place.

From an alternative perspective, I believe that free will does not actually exist at the human level but at the astral level where higher self has the choice to manifest a human life. This is in mutual agreement with other souls e.g if someone is to be killed by another human being then these choices have to be in mutual agreement at the higher level. This is perhaps what constitutes free will. I appreciate this may sound like a far fetched theory but it is based on various concepts I have come across lately and still exploring…..
