A Mindful Death

You may have heard this story before but I’m narrating it here in my own words. A monk was being chased by a wild tiger and unfortunately he was chased to the edge of a cliff where he was now dangling from, clinging to some vines growing off the cliff. He looked down and the deep rocky drop signified his inevitable demise. He looked up and saw the roaring Tiger trying to grab him from the edge of the cliff. Then he happened to glance sideways and noticed a grape vine. It was one particular grape that caught his eye; a large succulent, red grape. He switched to a familiar mindfulness mode and reached out to the grape. As he bit into the grape, he thought “this is the sweetest, tastiest grape I have ever had in my whole life”. At that moment, he was in “seventh heaven”. What a blissful experience! When he fell, he fell in bliss. What a way to go!
